Tooth Preservation (Dental Fillings)

Tooth Preservation & Aesthetic Fillings in Solapur

The best tooth is the one you were born with. At Deshpande Dental Care & Implant Centre, our philosophy is "Preservation First." We don't rush to drill; we strive to save as much of your natural tooth structure as possible.

If you have a small black spot, mild sensitivity to sweets, or food getting stuck between teeth, you likely have a cavity. Treating it now with our Tooth Preservation protocols can save you from a Root Canal or extraction later.

What is Tooth Preservation?

Tooth preservation is the practice of Conservative Dentistry. It involves removing only the decayed or damaged part of the tooth and restoring it with high-strength materials that bond to the tooth, strengthening it from the inside out.

We specialize in:

  • Composite Fillings: Invisible, tooth-colored restorations for cavities.
  • Pit & Fissure Sealants: Preventive coatings for children to stop cavities before they start.
  • Vital Pulp Therapy: Treating deep cavities to soothe the nerve and avoid a root canal.

Meet Your Specialist: Dr. Rucha Deshpande

Dr. Rucha Deshpande is an MDS Endodontist & Conservative Dentist. While an Endodontist is famous for Root Canals, their primary goal is actually avoiding them whenever possible.

Dr. Rucha specializes in Minimally Invasive Dentistry.

  • Micro-Dentistry: She uses magnification to spot decay that is invisible to the naked eye.
  • Precision Removal: She carefully removes only the infection, leaving healthy tooth structure untouched.
  • Aesthetic Bonding: She sculpts the filling to match the natural grooves of your tooth, so your bite feels normal immediately.

Goodbye Silver, Hello Composite

In the past, dentists used silver amalgam (metal) fillings. Today, we use Nano-Hybrid Composites.

Why Composite is Better:

  • Invisible: It comes in various shades of white to match your enamel perfectly. No one will know you have a filling.
  • Chemical Bond: Unlike metal which just "sits" in the hole, composite bonds to the tooth, holding it together and preventing cracks.
  • Mercury-Free: It is a safer, non-toxic alternative to silver fillings.
  • Less Drilling: We need to remove less healthy tooth structure to place a composite filling compared to silver.

The Process: Fast & Painless

  1. Numbing (Optional): For shallow cavities, anesthesia is often not needed. For deeper ones, we numb the area completely.
  2. Cleaning: Dr. Rucha gently removes the soft, decayed portion of the tooth.
  3. Bonding: A special adhesive is applied to the clean surface.
  4. Layering: The putty-like composite material is placed in layers and hardened with a specialized blue light.
  5. Polishing: We polish the filling until it is smooth and shiny like natural enamel.

A stitch in time saves nine. Don't wait for the pain to start. Visit Deshpande Dental Care & Implant Centre (Civil Chowk, Antrolikar Nagar, Jule Solapur) to treat cavities while they are small.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not at all. For small cavities, you might feel just a little vibration and cold water. For deeper cavities, we use local anesthesia to numb the tooth so you feel absolutely nothing during the procedure.

With modern nano-hybrid materials, composite fillings are very durable. On average, they last 5 to 7 years, but with good oral hygiene, they can last over 10 years. They withstand chewing pressure very well.

Yes, many patients choose to do this for cosmetic reasons or because the old metal fillings are leaking. Dr. Rucha can safely remove the old amalgam and replace it with a natural-looking composite filling.

It is normal to have mild sensitivity to cold water for a few days after a deep filling. This usually settles down on its own. If sensitivity persists for more than 2 weeks or you feel pain when biting, let us know.

If the decay has reached very close to the nerve, Dr. Rucha may perform 'Pulp Capping.' We place a medicated lining (Calcium Hydroxide) under the filling to heal the nerve. If this fails to soothe the pain, a Root Canal might be needed.

Composite fillings can pick up stains from coffee, tea, or smoking over many years, just like natural teeth. However, they can usually be polished back to their original brightness during your regular check-up.

The cost depends on the size of the cavity (one surface vs. multiple surfaces). It is slightly more expensive than old silver fillings due to the advanced materials and technique, but the aesthetic and health benefits are worth it.

Yes! Because we cure (harden) the filling instantly with a blue light, you can eat as soon as the anesthesia wears off. There is no waiting period like with silver fillings.
